I had the pleasure of trying one of Troy Guard’s newest restaurant this past Friday.
It’s called FNG and located in the Highlands, on 32nd and Perry. Being a fan of other Troy Guard restaurants in Denver, I was of course expecting good food, but with FNG’s focus on elevated comfort food, I pictured a casual neighborhood eatery.
While I wouldn’t necessarily describe it as fancy, FNG completely exceeded my expectations. The decor is cool and modern with very tall ceilings, making it a bit loud, so I wouldn’t recommend it for large groups. The bar is spacious and has comfy chairs, as well as some high top tables, and it had a fun, busy scene. The staff all wears band shirts, and the playlist is all rock n roll making for an awesome atmosphere!
My friend and I had a hard time deciding what to order as everything on the menu looks delicious. We ended up compromising by ordering only about twice as much as we really needed! Starting with a cheese platter and house specialty cocktails, we then ordered the chicken slider, the carbonara, fish entry, and the burger. The cheese platter was good but on the smaller side, and we would recommend going elsewhere if you’re craving seafood. That being said, the fried chicken is delicious, the carbonara is an interesting spin on a classic dish, with a poached egg on top, which we both loved, and the burger was exactly what a burger should be – cooked right, not too big, and not too fuzzy.
Therefore, I would say that FNG’s own description of “Down-home, but elevated fare from a modern bar & grill with a rock ‘n’ roll motif, bar & patio” fits it perfectly, as they excel at comfort food.
My inner rocker might have just found its restaurant soulmate in FNG.
